What is Snap.fm?
Snap.fm is a social bookmarking site dedicated to music news and content.i
Social Boomarking
In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, but depending on the service's features, may be saved privately, shared only with specific people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of publicness and privateness. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, via a search engine, or even randomly.

For us that means, users find articles about music, submit them as a bookmark to snap.fm and they are shared with all the other users. Unlike other social bookmarking sites, we focus just on music. When submitting articles to snap.fm you are asked to organize them in genre, category, band, etc. This makes snap.fm not limited to a certain genre or category, yet allows other users to easily find articles relating to their own tastes. Along with a updating band database, and media tagging (allowing media urls to be directly submitted with an article) we have built a social bookmarking site with music news in mind.
How it works
When a user first visits snap.fm they encounter the snap.fm Popular section. This section shows the most popular articles at any given time. This section is a rolling section, so once an article becomes popular it will stay popular until it is bumped down by other incoming popular articles. To submit an article to snap.fm for other users to see, a user has to go through the submitting process, clicking on submit a story begins this process. While submitting an article you will be asked to fill in additional information that helps us organize the article, as well as help other users find it in the future. Once an article has been submitted, it moves to the submitted news section for other users to see and vote.
Why vote?
Allowing users to vote helps snap.fm weed out the good articles from the bad. This is a social system, as more people become involved the better the system will run. When visiting the submitted news section voting helps articles get published to the Popular section. Vote on the stories you like to help share and promote the music you like. You can also kill stories that are spam, in the wrong section, duplicated, or otherwise bad. Use this option wisely, for killing an article unjustly will ruin your karma.
Karma?
Karma is a rating you receive while using this site. Karma refers to your weight in the system. The higher the karma, the more weight you have while submitting information, voting, or editing the band database. In other words, the higher the karma, the more likely we are to listen to you. Karma can be raised by interacting with the site, voting, submitting, and commenting on stories.
